BC Liquor Stores throughout the province will receive shipments of over 1,600 cases for this year’s Beaujolais Nouveau release tomorrow.
By international agreement, Beaujolais Nouveau is released worldwide on the third Thursday of November each year. Much anticipated by wine lovers, Beaujolais Nouveau is available in limited quantities for a short period of time. Most pick up their bottles within days of the release.
Beaujolais Nouveau is a young, red wine made from Gamay grapes in the Beaujolais region of France. Beaujolais Nouveau is intended for immediate drinking and not for keeping. The wines show definite variation between vintages, and as such are eagerly anticipated as a first indicator of the quality of the year's regional wine harvest.
This year, BC Liquor Store customers will be able to purchase 2011 Beaujolais Nouveau wines by Georges Duboeuf ($13.99) and Mommessin ($13.99). Limited quantities are available in each participating store. For more information about product availability and hours of operation, check with your local liquor store or visit: www.bcliquorstores.com
“2011 was an excellent harvest for Beaujolais Nouveau where ripe Gamay grapes were picked under sunny skies. As a result, the wines will have beautiful ripe red fruit flavours and juicy freshness in the mouth. The Nouveau (new) wine is exciting because it is our first look at what the vintage will bring for the entire Beaujolais region.”
