VANCOUVER — As the dire humanitarian crisis in Syria intensifies, concerned British Columbians can now support Red Cross emergency relief efforts by making donations in BC Liquor Stores throughout the province.
Recognizing the gravity of the situation in Syria – where escalating violence has forced millions to flee their homes – the Red Cross asked BC Liquor Stores to join their relief efforts. The campaign comes on the heels of Premier Christy Clark's commitment last week to provide $1 million in funding to help Syrian refugees settle in B.C.
Customers can now support Syrian relief efforts by donating $2 or $5 – or multiples thereof – at 196 BC Liquor Stores throughout British Columbia.
Donations will help the Red Cross provide emergency supplies to Syrian refugees, including water, food, clothing, temporary shelter, blankets and hygiene items. The funds will also support basic health care and psychological counselling for refugees, as well as help to reunite family members displaced by the conflict. Since 2003, BC Liquor Stores customers and employees have raised more than $2 million to help the Red Cross provide disaster relief for humanitarian crises at home and abroad.
