BCL holds Premium Spirit Release and launches food bank and Share-a-Bear campaigns

BURNABY, B.C. – BC Liquor Stores (BCL) are kicking off the holiday season this weekend and boosting spirits with the launch of its seasonal food bank fundraising campaign, annual Share-a-Bear program and popular Premium Spirit Release at select locations.

Premium Spirit Release

This year’s Premium Spirit Release offers an amazing selection of over 180 types of whiskies and highly sought-after spirits from around the world. Doors open at 8:00 a.m. on November 13 at 38 participating BCL stores (listed below).

“From collector items to signed bottles of celebrity-endorsed spirits to build your own Canadian whisky set, this year’s Release offers something for everyone,” said Adele Shaw, Category Manager for BCL. “The selection includes limited edition whiskies, sought-after tequilas, incredible rums and decadent liqueurs from around the world.”

In accordance with provincial health orders, masks are required to be worn inside the stores. To ensure the safety of customers and employees, physical distancing measures will be in place within the store.  Lineups outside stores will only be permitted on the day of the release and physical distancing measures will be in place.

As with previous Premium Spirit Releases, BCL held an online draw last month for customers to enter to win the opportunity to purchase extremely rare spirits, including the Dalmore Decades collection which is one of only 25 sets available in the world. The $200,000 set for purchase features four exceptional whiskies from 1979, 1980, 1995 and 2000.

Food Banks BC holiday fundraising campaign

The BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) is also launching a fundraising campaign in its BCL and BC Cannabis stores (BCCS), in support of Food Banks BC from November 12, 2021 until January 1, 2022. Funds collected by BCL and BCCS on behalf of Food Banks BC are given to the food bank in the community where the funds are raised. Since April 2020, BCL and BCCS have raised more than $1,631,818 for Food Banks BC.

Share-a-Bear program

During the month of December, customers are invited to purchase a pair of stuffed bears for $15  – one to take home and a twin that will be donated to a local shelter, hospital or other charity in the same community. In many cases, customers have donated both bears or made multiple purchases. Almost 700,000 bears have been donated to charities throughout the province since the program started in 1989.

BCL and BCCS are operated by the LDB, which is proud to contribute over $1 billion annually to the Province of British Columbia. The LDB’s contribution helps provide financial support for vital public services including health care and education.
