BC Liquor Stores Collect Donations for Pakistani Flood Relief

2010-08-25

VANCOUVER – Effective immediately, BC Liquor Stores customers can help support Red Cross relief efforts in Pakistan by making donations at any of the 197 BC Liquor Stores located in communities across British Columbia.

Until September 29, 2010, customers are able to make donations of $2.00 or $5.00 – or multiples thereof – at all BC Liquor Stores checkouts. All donations go to the Canadian Red Cross Pakistani Relief efforts.

In early August, monsoon rains caused extensive flash flooding throughout Pakistan, killing more than 1,500 people and causing widespread damage. Over 3 million people have been affected, and the rains are expected to worsen this week. The Canadian Red Cross is mobilizing to support relief efforts in Pakistan – providing medical support, clean water, food and shelter.

BC Liquor Stores collected donations from customers and staff for the Canadian Red Cross Society during four of its previous disaster relief campaigns: BC Wildfires (2003), Tsunami (2004-05), Hurricane Katrina (2005) and Haitian Earthquake (2010).

BC Liquor Stores are unable to issue tax receipts for donations. Customers who require tax receipts should donate directly to the Canadian Red Cross.
