Bordeaux release returns with pre-order system

2021-09-02

VANCOUVER - BC Liquor Stores (BCLS) is continuing to make a portion of its annual Bordeaux release available to an online pre-order system, in order to provide customers a safe and comfortable shopping experience.

Customers will once again have the opportunity to pre-order select products online on a first come, first served basis in advance of the September 25th release date. This is intended to mitigate line-ups that have formed hours (and even days) before stores opened in the past. The pre-order window opens at 8 a.m. Friday, September 3 and closes 11:59 p.m. Sunday, September 5.

Thirty-two participating stores throughout the province will open at 8 a.m. on Saturday, September 25, to further avoid congestion.

“Our annual Bordeaux release event attracts hundreds of people, and the pre-ordering system for the release went well last year while supporting physical distancing in our stores,” said Mike Procopio, Executive Director, Retail Liquor, BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB). “The teams in the stores did an amazing job to provide customers a safe and comfortable instore experience and we are pleased to provide our customers a hybrid shopping model again this year.”

The 2018 Bordeaux Release brochure, available in stores and online, lists over 100 wines available for pre-order and another 100-plus wines that will be made available instore on September 25 for purchase on a first come first served basis.

“2018 is a generous and open vintage with tannins that are full, ripe and mouthcoating. The wines are richly flavoured with notes of cassis, blackberry, spice, sweet herbs and mineral,” said Barb Philip, Master of Wine and Category Manager for BCLS. “Because of its open nature, most wines can be enjoyed now but almost all of them will gain complexity with bottle age.”

For savvy sippers hoping to take part in the event, Barb recommends the Château Marjosse ($28), Clos Floridène Blanc ($45), or Château Ferran ($45) that will be available instore. For those who are seeking premium wines for their cellar, there are select and limited bottles available for pre-order online, including Château Cheval Blanc ($1,800) and Petrus ($3,800).

BCLS is operated by the LDB, which is proud to contribute over $1 billion annually to the Province of British Columbia. Its contribution helps provide financial support for vital public services including health care and education.
