CELEBRATE FALL AT THE BEST OF BC WINE RELEASE & TASTINGS

2008-11-04

VANCOUVER - BC Liquor Stores is proud to release the Best of BC wines at BC Signature Liquor Stores on Saturday, November 8, 2008.

Each Spring and Fall, the Best of BC wines is released in partnership with BC wineries to celebrate a special collection of premium Vintners Quality Alliance (VQA) wines. The Best of BC fall release brings together 32 premium VQA wines that include many prominent, high quality collectible wines.

"BC wines continue to improve," said Stephen Schiedel, Portfolio Manager for BC wines at the Liquor Distribution Branch, "we have a good selection of wines including some gold medallists — Sumac Ridge Pinnacle Red 2005; Inniskillin Okanagan Malbec Discovery Series 2006, Red Rooster Reserve Merlot 2006 and Sandhill's Small Lots Syrah Phantom Creek 2006 — from the recent Okanagan Wine Festival."

Two preview consumer tastings will be held on November 7 at the 39th and Cambie BC Signature Liquor Store. Guest winemakers Howard Soon, Sandhill, and Dave Carson Vincor, will join Stephen Schiedel at these small group wine tastings. Participants will evaluate a selection of seven BC wines including one dessert wine. Tickets for this tasting event are available from the store for $35 each and seating for these events is limited.

The Best of BC wines will be available only in BC Signature Liquor Stores. Limited quantities per customer will apply on some wines and buyers are advised to shop early to avoid disappointment.

VQA wine sales have increased by approximately 70 per cent in the last five years to more than $153 million annually. All wines bearing the VQA symbol must be made from 100 per cent BC grown grapes.
