LDB makes the grade, named one of best employers in BC

2021-02-16

BURNABY — For the 13th straight year, the BC Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB) has been included on the list of top employers in B.C.

B.C.'s Top Employers, a designation started by Canada's Top Employers project in 2005, recognizes industry-leading employers that create exceptional places to work. Its list is shared in the Vancouver Sun annually.

"A safe work environment and accessibility to valuable benefits and programs ensure our people are and feel supported," said Blain Lawson, General Manager and CEO. "This was clearly put to the test by the pandemic that started one year ago. I'm proud of our people's commitment to serve our communities, keep those most vulnerable safe, and continually put the LDB on the list of BC's top employers for the last 13 years."

The LDB employs people in communities across B.C. at 198 BC Liquor Stores, 25 BC Cannabis Stores, three distribution centres of beverage alcohol and non-medical cannabis, the province's sole legal online retail channel for non-medical cannabis, and a corporate head office. In 2020, the LDB received 62,000 career applications, nearly a 13 per cent increase from the year prior, which is a testament to the desirability of the LDB as an employer.

The inclusion of the LDB on the B.C.'s Top Employers list for over a decade reassured Organizational Development & Change Advisor Eli Yanga's decision to relocate to B.C. for the career opportunity. "It reinforced my decision to pursue my application seeing that the LDB is a reputable organization that cares about their people," said Yanga.

The wholesale and retail sale of liquor and non-medical cannabis operated by the LDB contributes over $1.1 billion annually to the Province of B.C. to fund vital public services such as health care and education.

Canada's Top Employers project evaluates eligible employers across a range of criteria and scores in: Physical Workplace; Work and Social Atmosphere; Health, Financial and Family Benefits; Vacation and Time Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training and Skills Development; and Community Involvement.
