Masks Recommended in BC Liquor Stores & BC Cannabis Stores

2020-11-11

The health and safety of our staff and their families, our customers and the communities in which we operate is the LDB's most critical priority, and has been since the World Health Organization declared the COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic.

The LDB was deemed an essential service early on in order to provide a service that customers, industry partners and the community depend on.  Our organization has changed as a result of the pandemic and will continue to be shaped by this experience.

We have consistently followed the direction of Dr. Bonnie Henry, the Provincial Health Officer (PHO), who has provided British Columbians with essential information to protect themselves, their families and their communities as this situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve and more information about the virus comes to light.

Dr. Henry recently announced an updated recommendation related to the use of face masks. While not an official order, Dr. Henry says it is now an “expectation” that people wear non-medical face masks in public spaces. In line with this recommendation, we have communicated that expectation to our BC Liquor Store and BC Cannabis Store employees as part of our evolving response to address the situation with COVID-19, recommending they wear face masks while at work and on the sales floor.

We are also encouraging customers to wear a face mask while shopping in our stores, and have installed signage advising them of this recommendation.

Dr. Henry has been consistent in her message that the best way to stop the virus is to maintain physical distancing and proper hand hygiene. To that end we have implemented a number of operational changes at our stores and workplaces to support and protect employees and customers, including the installation of protective shields at checkout areas and floor decals to support physical distancing between sales associates and customers.

The LDB will continue to make decisions with the goal of protecting the health and safety of the most vulnerable, our employees, our customers and the communities we serve, while following the direction of the Provincial Health Officer.
