Share-a-Bears bring happiness over the holidays

2020-01-28

Thanks to the generosity of our customers, BC Liquor Stores distributed more than 23,000 Share-a-Bears to charities that help families in need, over the holidays.

The annual Share-a-Bear program invites customers visiting stores during the months of November and December to purchase a pair of stuffed bears: one to keep and a twin to donate to a local shelter, hospital or other non-profit in the community. In some cases, customers donate both bears or make multiple purchases.

“While BC Liquor Stores employees are proud to deliver the bears to their local charities, knowing they’ll bring a smile to a child’s face, ultimately it is our customers’ generosity that makes this campaign a success every year,” said Jonathan Castaneto, Director, Store Operations.

Each year, store teams compete to be the top seller in their respective region, and across the province. The top three selling stores this past season were:

  1. Fort St. John: 1,952 bears
  2. Dawson Creek: 1,626 bears
  3. Prince George Pine Centre: 1,034 bears

Almost 700,000 bears have been donated to charities throughout the province since the Share-a-Bear program started in 1989. The program supports local charities, including Christmas stocking funds, hospitals, police and first responders, and other community support groups.

Employees of the Liquor Distribution Branch (LDB), which operates BC Liquor Stores, believe in giving back to their communities. Throughout the year, the LDB partners with our customers to participate in a variety of programs and campaigns that benefit people throughout British Columbia and beyond.
