Treat Dad to something special from BC Liquor Stores

2016-06-09

VANCOUVER – Every Dad is unique—and a BC Liquor Stores gift or fun product tasting experience is the perfect way to celebrate him on his special day. This year, the Signature BC Liquor Store at 39th and Cambie is holding three special events to celebrate all kinds of fathers, from whisky lovers and beer aficionado to foodies! These events are a perfect opportunity to treat Dad to something special—or to gain some inspiration for his gift!

For the BBQ fanatic

Friday, June 10, 2016, 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

Customers can celebrate Father’s Day with Glenlivet scotch – and meat! The Glenlivet Brand Ambassador will host a free Father’s Day-themed event, complete with barbecued ribs. Attendees will be able to taste the Glenlivet Founder’s Reserve and find out why this is the perfect gift for Dad, as well as learn how to create a custom bottle label especially for him.

For the scotch connoisseur

Thursday, June 16, 2016, 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.

Ticketholders can join Canadian GlenDronach Brand Ambassador, J. Wheelock, as he guides attendees through an exclusive tasting of GlenDronach whiskies. The GlenDronach Distillery has been producing richly sherried single malts for nearly 200 years in the Scottish Highlands. Attendees will learn about the company’s history while tasting through the GlenDronach 12-year old, 18-year old, 21-year old, Cask Strength Batch 4 and an exclusive release from the Batch 13 collection—the 2003 Cask #930 Pedro Ximenez Sherry Puncheon. Tickets are $35 and now available for purchase at the 39th & Cambie BC Liquor Store.

For the beer lover

Friday, June 17, 2016, 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

Those who love a fine beer can sample Stella Artois along with delicious food pairings at this free event. This is also a chance to get a special gift for dad: the most iconic beer glass in the world, the Stella Artois Chalice, engraved on the spot with a custom message, free with every purchase.

For gift-givers who can’t make it out to any of these great events, BC Liquor Stores offers up these suggestions for beverages Dad will love.

Coffee Connoisseur

Dads who are much happier after their first cup of coffee will surely appreciate a wine with unmistakable notes of java. Most Amarone offers that hint in a deliciously ripe, robust style of vino. Amarone is made from partially dried grapes, making it expensive to produce and a real treat to uncork. Amarone – Tedeschi ($48.99, 110312).

California Dreamer

Is Dad planning a road trip down to the Napa Valley, or does he drink Californian Cabernet like it’s going out of style? If that’s true, then he’ll enjoy some pure bottled joy from California: Beringer Knights Valley - Cabernet Sauvignon ($42.99, 352583).

The Grill Master

Does Dad take credit for the whole meal when all he’s really done is grill the meat? Then he’ll love a wine that matches his passion for the BBQ: Zinfandel. This wine’s deep flavours of plum puree and black cherry, often edged with notes of dried cocoa, work gorgeously well with that grilling staple, red meat. Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel ($34.99, 428417).

World Traveller

Has Dad travelled to all four corners of the Earth? If so, he can be transported somewhere fabulous through wine! An excellent choice for the world traveller is Chateau De Sancerre Sancerre ($27.99, 164582)—this Sauvignon Blanc from Sancerre, the medieval hilltop town of France overlooking the Loire Valley, offers subtle fruit flavours balanced by a nice mineral undertone.

The Golfer

FORE! Par, eagle and shank…are these words regularly used in Dad’s vocabulary? Is Caddyshack on his list of all-time favourite flicks? If a trip to St. Andrews is out of the question, a good bottle of Bourbon could do the trick, since nothing toasts a great day on the fairway like a wee dram of the good stuff. Basil Hayden’s 8 Year Old Kentucky Bourbon ($42.99, 106120).

The Intellectual

Is Dad a fountain of knowledge about everything random in life? Then he’ll revel in a bottle of the pondering person’s drink: scotch. A smart choice would be a lighter style well-suited to the season, such as Glenfarclas 17-Year Old ($109.99, 134270).
