Ultra-rare $21,800 Glenfarclas scotch available at BC Liquor Stores

2016-05-03

VANCOUVER – On May 10, whisky aficionados will have the chance to buy one of the rarest and most desirable whiskies from Scotland’s iconic Glenfarclas Distillery. The only bottle of the ultra-rare 60-year old Glenfarclas Scotch Whisky available in B.C. will be sold at Vancouver’s Signature BC Liquor Store at 39th and Cambie—one of only 360 bottles released worldwide.

Retailing for $21,800, the 60-year old Glenfarclas has been matured in a first fill sherry butt, giving it an incredibly dark, rich mahogany colour. The vibrant aromas of dried fruits, Demerara sugar and spice come through on the nose and combine with rich, oaky tannins, giving the whisky an exquisite, lengthy finish. The sherry influence also comes through on the palate, with rich treacle, bitter coffee and espresso notes all making an appearance.

Between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. on May 10, BC Liquor Stores customers can attend a tasting event featuring 12-, 17- and 21-year old whiskies from the Glenfarclas Distillery with sixth generation owner George S. Grant. Customers who purchase any Glenfarclas product will have the opportunity to have their bottle signed by Grant. At 5:30 p.m., if more than one customer is interested in purchasing the 60-year old bottle, a draw will be held to determine the winner.

In addition, two special Glenfarclas products will also be available in case customers don’t happen to have $21,800 handy! A small number of 40-year old Glenfarclas Scotch Whisky will be available at the Brighouse and 39th and Cambie locations, and retails for $680. The Glenfarclas £511.19s.0d Family Reserve is also a special onetime buy, and is being released to celebrate 150 years of Grant Family ownership. Retailing for $164.99, £511.19s.0d represents the amount the Grant family paid for the distillery in 1865. This special product will be available at Brighouse, Park Royal and 39th and Cambie.
