Frequently Asked Questions

What records do I need to keep?

As a prudent business operator, you must retain records necessary for your type and size of business. This includes, but is not limited to, production records, sales reports and excise documents for audit purposes. Please refer to your sales agreement for details.

What are the Inventory Requirements?

You must perform inventory counts, at minimum, once a year on LDB Fiscal End, March 31.  Please refer to your sales agreement for details.

What are the Annual Reporting Requirements?

BC liquor manufacturers are required to provide the following reports on an annual basis:

  • Annual Worldwide Production Reports and Declarations (Breweries, Brewpubs)
  • Annual / Monthly Production Reports (Craft Distilleries)
  • Product Movement Summary (Breweries, Brewpubs, Commercial Wineries, Commercial Distilleries and Craft Distilleries)

Please refer to your sales agreement for more details.

How do I export products?

To learn more about how to export liquor products outside of British Columbia, you must contact the destination country or province to which you plan to export your product. Imports into that country/province are subject to each country/province’s rules and regulations.

In order for the sale to be exempt of LDB markup, you must obtain records proving the products have physically left the province. All exports records must be kept on file and recorded on your Annual Product Movement Report. If you have further questions, please reach the Finance, Wholesale – Regulatory and Compliance team by sending e-mail to [email protected].

Who classifies new manufacturers and issues sales agreements?

This department also works to ensure manufacturers understand and comply with their sales agreement and associated LDB regulations and policies. Please note that inspections or audits may be conducted by the LDB at any time.
